Technical Specs
  • Designed for residential and light commercial applications
  • Wind springs up to 127 IPPT (8 turns) for a total of 1,020 in-lbs or 85 ft-lbs of torque. This is equivalent to .362" wire x 3.75" ID x 35" long with 8 turns .
  • The Surewinder  can wind a .362 x 3.75 ID X 35 in long spring 8 turns with a Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2804 Li-ion cordless 1/2" drill (7 turns in high gear, 1 turn in low gear) which is rated for 1,200 in-lbs of torque in drill (not hammer) mode.  NO IMPACTS.
  • 10 turns in under a minute with 1,000 RPM drill.
  • Needs 2.5 inches clearance from shaft to wall
  • Can be used on up to 4.5 inch spring diameters, 1 inch shaft diameters.
  • Can be wound at 2,500 RPM.
  • Weighs 7.5 lbs,   dimensions:   21” long x 6” wide x 3.5” deep
  • Made from 304 Stainless steel and high temper bronze for wear resistance.  Aerospace grade fasteners.

Fantastic tool for limited space

"When I first purchased the Surewinder and used it a few times I wasn’t really sure it was a good investment. I Recently acquired a large door account that has a conveyor system in the building that wasn’t built with door service in mind. Recently had to replace springs on a door where I had to come in over the top of a mezzanine working below me in a boom lift. Putting the initial wind on the springs would have taken a ton of effort in an awkward position but the surewinder made quick work out of it. Q&A

It appears that you can only adjust tension in whole turns. Is that correct?
If you need to put on 7.25 or 7.5 (for example), you would just put the fractional turn on with your hand, then insert the Surewinder into the winding cone and then proceed to put 7 turns on, and when finished you will have accomplished the 7.X turns.
How can I add the grease to my order?

Have you got one yet for truck and trailer operators
We are actively testing a new tool we call the Freightwinder that is small enough to work in the tight spaces of truck trailers. We are still many months away from having it proven out.
What is the part number for this item?
We really do not use part numbers. We have only 2 products, one is the residential / light commercial Surewinder, and the other is the commercial Brutewinder.

how do you replace the winding gear to spin the worm gear? mine is worn out on both sides and my 9/16 will no longer grab and now I can't use it
I think you mean the hex head on the drive bolts are getting stripped, right. If so, we sell drive bolt replacement kits that you can easily install yourself with our video. Send email to chris@surewinder.com requesting this. They sells for $48
Can this be used on Tadco box truck rolling doors?
No. But we are in the process of building a new prototype that will work in truck roll up doors. Probably a couple of months away from testing
curious, most techs will gap the spring slightly by hitting the winding bars to keep the spring from making popping sounds. how do you gap the string when using this tool?
You can strike the handle to gap the spring.
